Teaien was created to give new life to an item we use once and immediately throw away, the tea bag. This project is an alternative to the traditional tea bag created to help promote seed diversity, local and personal gardening, as well as reducing kitchen waste.
The six varieties of tea are presented in a cherry finger-jointed box which was hand-stitched to avoid using glue or fasteners.
The organic cotton cover was stitched onto the box using the same technique as the joints and a loop was sewn into the end to hold a metal weight to keep the cover closed and tidy.
Inside are tea bags with tags made of handmade seed paper which can be planted to grow the corresponding variety of herbal tea.
Each box contains two bags of each variety of tea which can be identified with by the colour of the stamped leaf on the tags. Steeping information and information on planting the tea bags once they are used can be found on the included card.
